Music Beyond Barriers This was an EU Erasmus+ funded youth exchange project. The main organiser was Balık Arts, in partnernership with Zero Discrimination Association, which works with Roma and Gypsy communities in Turkey, particularly in Istanbul. Şişli Municipality in Istanbul has been an additional partner in the project, helping with hospitality, provision of rehearsal space and publicity. Mehtap Demir, an acclaimed musician, vocalist and the head of Ethnomusic Department in Istanbul University was the Project Patron. Aim Intercultural exchange and between the young Turkish Roma community and young people from UK and Europe through music, filmmaking and visits to both countries. The project had two legs, one in Istanbul and one in Cambridge, bringing together young people and their leaders from the UK and Turkey.
